Despite a busy production schedule, Mandy Moore sat down in London last week to address her recent selection as the voice of Disney's newest princess, Rapunzel.
The 50th animated production for Disney, the film is an adaption on the popular German fairytale made famous by the Brothers Grimm. According to various sources, "Chuck" star Zachary Levi will join Mandy as the voice of the prince, while David Schwimmer will also reportedly star. It is the first animated film for the singer/songwriter since Brother Bear 2, starring Partrick Dempsey.
In a recent interview with RottenTomatoes.com, Mandy admits that the "opportunity to play a Disney princess was one that [she] leapt at."
"She's defiitely the quintessential sassy, young Disney heroine," says Mandy. "She's a bit of a spitfire too, and very curious young woman. She's really curious about the world she's never really seen, and she's coming in to her own."
Scheduled for a Winter 2010 release, the film has already begun production, according to Mandy. "I've done a little bit of work already," she said in the interview. "But the bulk of it I'll start when I get back home. It's a lot of fun. And there's a lot of music involved; really great music."
While the movie promises to carry the hallmarks of Disney's classic animated films, it will be filmed in 3-D to create an unparalleled viewer experience.
