Fans of Mandy Moore should be hard-pressed to forget the songstress's heartwarming performance of "Only Hope" in the 2002 adaption of Nicholas Spark's hit novel, "A Walk to Remember
." Joining "Cry
" as one of the film's signature ballads, the song proved to be a tour de force for the then-seventeen-year-old Mandy Moore.
Understandably, we we're pleasantly surprised to learn of Donna Lynne Champlin's re-release of "Only Hope," recently. The cover, which appeared on Champlin's debut album entitled "Old Friends," is an exciting undertaking for the Carnegie Mellon-trained actress, whose resume includes stints in such Broadway productions as "The Dead," "By Jeeves," "Hollywood Arms," and "Sweeney Todd."
As a classically-trained singer, dancer, and actress, Champlin brings a fresh take to this remarkable track. With her theatrical background unapologetically showing through, Champlin's efforts yield an unlikely, yet worthy rendition of this amazing track.
