Bette Midler Wraps on Vegas Hit, 'The Showgirl Must Go On'

 

Mandy Moore's idol, Bette Midler, capped a major milestone tonight as she completed a two year run in The Showgirl Must Go On at Caesar's Palace.  

Concluding a remarkable journey that began in 2008, Midler's departure marks the end of one of Vegas's most popular song-and-dance shows. Wowing audiences with her unique brand of fishnets and feathers, Midler appeared in 180 consecutive shows and generated more than $65 million in ticket sales.

Appearing in front of an estimated 750,000 fans, the Divine Miss M leaves on top of her game. Over the course of her run, fans included Tony Bennett, Taye Diggs, Dita von Teese, Pink, Yoko Ono, and of course, Mandy Moore!

As a long-time fan, songstress Mandy Moore has made no secret of her devotion to the legendary entertainer. In an interview featured in the L.A. Times back in 2004, Mandy noted: "I love Bette Midler. I think I'd probably faint if I met her. She's accomplished everything--Broadway, TV, movies, recording. Plus, she's a wife, a mom, and a household name. She's unique and I have so much respect for her."

Mandy Moore EmpowHERs in the Fight Against Cervical Cancer!

In a final push just prior to the end of Cervical Cancer Awareness month, Mandy Moore sat down with EmpowHER.com to discuss her recent advocacy on behalf of the Gynecological Cancer Foundation's Reality Check Campaign.

Since joining the Gynecological Cancer Foundation and GlaxoSmithKline, Mandy has worked tirelessly to spread the word about cervical cancer. Sitting down with EmpowHER's Todd Hartley, the 25 year old discussed her motivation in joining the campaign, and her own feelings about the devastating disease. 

Addressing a recent study suggesting that young women know more about pop culture than their own cervical health, Mandy responded candidly. "It's definitely attributed to that lack of awareness," she conceded, that as "young women...[we] probably have the idea that our cervix doesn't even factor in until decide we want to have a child. The [Reality Check Campaign] is really just to encourage young woman to start this dialogue and [talk] about their cervical health."

As a young woman, Mandy expressed a sense of responsibility for all women in her age group. "I feel very, very lucky that this hasn't personally affected me, but being young...I think I really relate to a lot of those women..." she confessed. "One in five doesn't known what their cervix does...so I definitely felt like there was a need to add a voice to this cause."

A special guest at the Gynecological Cancer Foundation's first-ever Race to End Women's Cancer, Mandy expressed awe for her fellow participants. "It's incredible to put a face to the cause, and to have that backed up by their unbelievably heroic, incredible journeys," said Mandy. "When you hear the word cancer, its incredibly scary...[and] it was just an empowering event to be around all those women."

Mandy Moore Bids Farewell to J.D. Salinger

Following the death of acclaimed writer J.D. Salinger this past Wednesday, Mandy Moore took to her popular Twitter-feed to post her thoughts. 

Offering a simple "RIP J.D. Salinger," Mandy said goodbye to one the most famous (and reclusive) authors in American history.  Author of the American standard, "The Catcher in the Rye," Salinger published just a handful of novels and stories before going into seclusion in 1965.

Best known for his tortured protagonist, Holden Caulfield, Salinger's work is both controversial and revered for its themes of teenage angst and introspection.

Mandy Moore Enjoys the Music of Brett Dennen

Fans of MandyMooreBlog.com may remember our recent Throwback Video featuring singer/songwriter Brett Dennen. Featuring Dennen's hit music video, "Make You Crazy," our feature noted Dennen's immense talent and drive for social justice.

It makes sense then, that we were excited to find a song of Dennen's on Mandy Moore's popular Twitter-feed. Urging her fans to take a listen, Mandy tweeted: "Song of the day - "There Is So Much More" by the always sunny Mr. Brett Dennen. Love him."

The title track off Dennen's second studio album, "There Is So Much More" is a catchy song that delivers on its performer's reputation for progressive acoustics and powerful lyrics.

Appearing at the prestigious Newport Folk Festival back in August, Dennen was named as one of Rolling Stone's 10 Artists to Watch in 2007.

Mandy Moore Finds 'Balance' in Advocacy Against Cervical Cancer

From appearing on PIX 11 Morning News to AP Live, Mandy Moore has made no secret of her determination to raise awareness of cervical cancer. As the second leading cause of cancer death for women in their 20's and 30's, cervical cancer is a preventable, yet still-deadly disease.

As we look forward to the final days of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, MandyMooreBlog.com is thrilled to offer the final portion of Mandy's recent interview on AP LIve. Dedicated to Mandy's recent philanthropic efforts, Mandy talks cervical cancer, and its impact on young women.

Noting her involvement in the Gynecological Cancer Foundation's Reality Check Campaign, Mandy offers a candid portrayal of the disease. "85 percent of woman surveyed about cervical cancer had no idea they were at risk!" says Mandy. "That fact was just mind-boggling!"

"I think its always important to find the balance in life," explains Mandy, "I feel really lucky on one hand to be doing something that I am unbelievably passionate about, and to be able to follow that up with causes that resonate with me, [is] one of the more important things to me."

Mandy Moore Dishes on "Rapunzel," Married Life & More!

Several weeks ago, we featured Mandy Moore as she sat down with the Associated Press for the news organization's AP Live show. Discussing everything from Rapunzel to her recent marriage to rocker Ryan Adams, Mandy's thoughts were insightful and thought-provoking. 

As a follow-up to our original article, MandyMooreBlog.com is proud to present a portion of Mandy's interview in its entirety. Speaking at length about her role as Disney's newest princess, Mandy discusses her feelings for Ryan and her intentions for an upcoming album.

Comparing the responsibilities of voiceover actors to those of on-screen actors, Mandy raves, "It's so much fun! I really like the elements of being able to dress casually, and not having to worry about performing on camera!" An an added benefit, she adds, "it entails so much of your imagination--it's like flexing this childhood muscle!"

Discussing her recent nuptials, Mandy's attitude is honest yet upbeat. "Life now, doesn't feel extraordinarily different. I really felt like a complete woman before, so it was never about searching for that person that would fulfill me in some way. I think I'm the best version of myself now."

As for Mandy's seventh studio album? In her own words, it's slowly but surely coming. "I'm not quite sure what this next record is going to be," she admits, "but I think I'm ready to get out of my head and put it down on paper."

Mandy Moore Enjoys the Music of Josh Rouse

Amidst production schedules and interviews, Mandy Moore recently took time out of her busy week to tweet on a rather remarkable piece of music on her popular Twitter-feed.

To the delight of her nearly two million followers, Mandy offered a little "Love Vibration" in a recent shout-out for pop folk sensation Josh Rouse. Says Mandy: "A lil' morning AM sunshine. And yes that's a sax solo at the end. So bold--makes me love it even more." 

Off his 2003 album, "1972," "Love Vibration" delivers a powerful blend of bohemian acoustics with a catchy, rootsy melody. A throwback to a different era, it is one many unique tracks on the aptly-titled album.

A critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter, Rouse appears on a number of soundtracks for such films as "The Girl Next Door," "Vanilla Sky ," and on such television shows as "Roswell," "Six Feet Under," and "Grey's Anatomy." Rouse was also a popular opening act on John Mayer's winter tour in early 2007.

A Touching Look Back at Mandy Moore on 'The Simpsons!'

In 21 seasons of Fox's hit series, The "Simpsons," no guest star has donned the yellow hue of animation better than Mandy Moore. Appearing on the Season 17, Episode 22, Mandy voiced the role of gorgeous pop star, Tabitha Trixx.

Entitled "Marge and Home Turn a Couple Play," the episode hinges on a baseball-playing husband and his wife as they try to rescue their marriage. Turning to Marge and Homer for advice, the pair fall apart before reuniting in an explosive (and very sweet) finale. 

Appearing on the final episode of the show's 17th season, Mandy's character is best known for her raunchy yet hilarious rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. A popular favorite among fans of the series, Mandy is among the show's most famous guest stars. Others include Sting, Willie Nelson, *NSync and Sir Paul McCartney.

Way to go, Mandy!

Mandy Moore Marries a Cullen!

MandyMooreBlog.com is thrilled to announce that Mandy Moore has signed on to star in a new romantic comedy with blonde heartthrob Kellan Lutz!

Entitled either First Love, Then Marriage or Love, Wedding, Marriage, the film features Mandy as a marriage counselor whose parents separate after many years together. She feverishly attempts to get them back together, jeopardizing her own marriage. Her husband will be played by Kellan Lutz, better known to movie-goers as the Twilight Saga's, Emmett Cullen.

Veteran actor Dermot Mulroney makes his directorial debut. Beginning production in February, the movie will be filmed on location in New Orleans.

Mandy's third film since mid-2009, it is her eighth romantic comedy. Previous co-stars include the likes of Shane West, Matthew Goode, Gabriel Macht, and John Krasinski.

Mandy Moore Talks Philanthropy and Fashion on 'The Thread'

Songstress Mandy Moore paid a visit to Times Square in New York City recently, as she sat down with Sarah Bernard on Yahoo's The Thread!

Scheduled amidst a whirlwind media tour of the Big Apple, Mandy kicked off the interview with a special emphasis on cervical cancer awareness. Decrying a recent study that showed that just one in five young women know where their cervix is, Mandy urged women to be "proactive" in maintaining their cervical health. 

In the aftermath of a very busy 2009, Mandy briefly touched on her latest projects in the new year. Noting that she continues to record music for Disney's Rapunzel, Mandy added that she is also working on releasing a brand new album!

Asked to name her favorite designer, Mandy was diplomatic as she confessed an interest in vintage pieces. Declining to name a single designer on camera, she ultimately revealed that her super-cute black and navy dress was an original Balenciaga.
