With the release of Dear John in theaters this past weekend, author and screenwriter Nicholas Sparks has once again earned a notable place in the spotlight. Known for such classics as Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember
, and The Notebook
, the legendary writer's latest blockbuster-to-be stars Mamma Mia
's Amanda Seyfried and A-list hunk, Channing Tatum.
With yet another Sparks novel, The Last Song set to premiere in theaters next month with singer/actress Miley Cyrus, the buzz surrounding the 44 year old writer is certainly bound to continue. For someone like Mandy Moore who fought to appear in the author's beloved classic, A Walk to Remember, the recent upsurge in popularity is ultimately well-deserved.
"I had such a visceral reaction to it that I remember not being able to read because I was hyperventilating while I was crying," said Mandy of A Walk to Remember. "It was my first movie, and I know people say...it's a tearjerker, but for me, it's the thing I'm most proud of."
The story of a young girl's journey in love while battling terminal cancer, the 2002 film was a winter favorite among moviegoers, grossing $47 million, and netting Mandy three Teen Choice Awards.
