With an eye for great music, Mandy Moore has entertained her fans with a series of Twitter-based shout-outs ranging from Paul McCartney to Brett Dennen.
Recalling yet another legendary musician recently, Mandy Moore referenced the recently passed, Jay Reatard. "Album of the Day, "Watch Me Fall" Jay Reatard," tweeted Mandy. "Sigh. It's such a loss. Was looking forward to much more music from him."
A prolific singer/songwriter, Reatard began his career in a number of musical groups, finding success with The Reatards, Lost Sounds, Bad Times, The Final Solutions and the Angry Angles. Embarking on a solo career in 2006, Reatard followed up his earlier success with a pair of successive albums entitled "Blood Visions" and "Watch Me Fall
."
Released on Matador Records, "Watch Me Fall" is considered to be the mellowest and most highly-melodic of his many works. Noting the album's unique sound, Reatard explained, "this new batch of songs feature an organ, some mandolins, a cello, and a lot more back-ups and harmonies." In an August 2009 interview, Reatard also admitted that the album's lyrics were centered around his growing fear of death and the betrayal of close friends.
To the shock of his fans, friends, and family, Jay Reatard passed away this past January, at the age of 29.
