On Saturday, MTV's "Gone Too Far" wrapped its final episode with the story of Megan, a 21 year old, pregnant, meth-addict.
On a season in which young drug abusers faced death straight in the eye, Megan's story was the worst. After nearly five years of hard-core drug use, Megan was exposing her unborn child to the harsh toxins of nearly six months of methamphetamine use. Megan had Gone Too Far.
Like many on the show, Megan had a family to support her. Against the backdrop of beautiful Salt Lake City, Utah, Megan had a nice house, a loving family, and what should have been a exciting journey in her first year at Brigham Young University.
Twice pregnant and using again, Megan's family contacted Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein. A recovering drug addict himself, he understood the difficulty of getting clean, and promised to offer Megan a second chance. Megan, understandably, was scared, and even checked into a hotel room to escape her family's reaction to her latest pregnancy.
At the end of the day, Megan checked into rehab to save the life of her unborn child. Miraculously her daughter escaped with no clear birth defects, and was adopted into the family raising her first daughter, Liberty. DJ AM, however, had already passed away.
DJ AM was a gifted artist, and understandably, his reputation in music will proceed him. But to the seven young men and women of "Gone Too Far," Adam was a very special human being.
While some of us were not lucky enough to personally know Adam, we can't help but feel a tremendous love for him and the amazing person that he was. His passing is a loss to us all, and words cannot express how much he will be missed.
